Graze Your Way Across North Carolina this Weekend

If you aren’t hungry now – you will be after you read through our North Carolina Edible Events on deck for the weekend. Our philosophy is hey, summer is coming to a close – what better time to pack everybody up for some forced family fun – look – when there’s lip-smacking NC grub involved it won’t be hard to persuade them to come along for the ride!

Port City Rib Fest – Wilmington, NC – really, the name says it all Rib Fest and we’re there – this festival is a part of the NC Premier BBQ Series. The fare is not limited to pork either – you’ll find chicken, beef brisket, sausage, oh my – definitely a take your eatin’ pants event – then there’s the fact that they bill themselves as “The Nation’s Most Unique BBQ Festival” – bbq, music and “zany” fun – yeah, we’re in.

August 14th – 16th

The Great Outdoors of Beer Series – Greensboro, NC – head to Natty Greene’s original spot in the Triad for their every second Friday series. I’m not sure if you’ve heard – but beer is kind of a big deal here in NC (WRAL What’s On Tap) – this is a cool combo of Great Outdoor Provision Company and Natty Greene’s celebrating our outdoor lifestyle and our hopping beer culture. August 14th – 5-9:30pm (topic: Whitewater Rafting)

The Fountain Peanut Festival – Fountain, NC … if you just read that and said to yourself – where is Fountain? … that’s your clue you need to attend the 8th annual Fountain Peanut Festival. As we like to say here in NC – Fountain is down-east – nestled right near Farmville – about an hour from Raleigh and their Peanut Festival celebrates – in my humble opinion – one of our state’s most delicious crops – go see them this weekend.

August 14th and 15th

Music, Food and Charlotte’s Recording History – Shelby, NC – Okay y’all this one promises to be entertaining – you’ve got to love some funny music history! Did you know there’s actually a song titled “Grits Ain’t Groceries?” Anyway, in this instance –  The Kollard Kings will play a feast of songs for you from the thirties, followed by a discussion detailing the story of how Bill Monroe recorded “Feast Here Tonight.” This might seem like a stretch – but there are plenty of good places to eat in and around Shelby – Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge, The Shelby Cafe, Joe’s Place and Stellar House to name a few – it’s worth the drive.

August 15th 2 – 3:30pm

“The Dude Abides” Big Lebowski Movie Party – Raleigh, NC – make your way to the North Carolina Museum of Art on Saturday night for an outdoor screening of The Big Lebowski – if you’ve seen it … then you know – if you haven’t … then you should – plus some of your favorite local food trucks – American Meltdown, Only Burger, Pie Pushers, CJ’s Street Food, The Humble Pig, Not Just Icing and Citizen Pops – will be on hand with dinner provisions – fill up there and then grab a local brew or a White Russian … again, if you know, then you know – if not go see the movie.

August 15th – gates open at 6:30
